Resources

Take a deep breath. Seriously, take a deep breath.  Whether you just discovered drugs and alcohol in your teen's room or you've been battling with an addicted child for many years, breathe deep and focus.  Parents of an addict can get so entrenched in their child's troubles they forget to stop and take a breath.  Asking why can send you into a downward spiral.  Asking for help can start you down the road to recovery.  When it comes to addiction, knowledge is power.  We've compiled a list of resources to help you get started.  Pick up the phone and don't stop until you connect with someone, both literally and physically.  The world of recovery is filled with caring individuals who can help you navigate through the maze of recovery.  Reach out.  Talk to other parents.  Talk to counselors.  And above all, learn to trust the advice of those who have gone before you.  However horrifying, your story is not unique.  There is always hope.  As long as your child is drawing a breath, recovery is possible.  Wonderful recovery stories are around every corner.  Keep looking.
