Curriculum Options

Students who enroll in Oklahoma Outreach Sober School have a variety of curriculum options.  Upon transcript evaluation, an individual path of education will be set for each student.  The path selection is based on the student's prior class history, grade point average and outstanding requirements for graduation.  Four options are available for course completion.

  1. Oklahoma Virtual High School - Students take 6-8 courses on a semester schedule and are required to stay active  by completing 6% of each class weekly.  Students must maintain a GPA of 2.0.  This program has specific enrollment dates for Fall and Spring semesters.  This path is recommended for students who are on track to graduate within 1-2 semesters of their original graduation dates.
  2. OU High School - This is a distance learning program through the University of Oklahoma.  Classes use both textbooks and online.  Students take classes 1-2 at a time.  Open Enrollment is allowed all year long. This program seems to work best for students who are self-motivated and willing/able to read from textbooks.
  3. Excel High School or Christina International High School - These are accredited online schools based in Minnesota.  The classes are provided completely online and can be enrolled in at any time during the school year.  Students take one course at a time.  These schools allow extra activities to count towards elective credit.
  4. High School Equivalency Diploma - This is a solution for our students who are so far behind in high school credits they have few remaining options.  This program allows students to take a 5-subject test similar to the GED, however it also includes a career course, a life skills module and requires a short essay to complete requirements necessary to receive a basic studies graduation diploma.

After we receive a student's high school transcript we will create a graduation plan that details the courses needed and a program will be mutually agreed upon.  A projected graduation date will be set.    As a student progresses it may be necessary to reevaluate the curriculum selection and choose an alternate solution.
* Currently OU offers the only online curriculum pre-approved to transfer back into the Oklahoma City School districts.
